When I'm downtown, especially on the north side, I'm dismayed at the number of old buildings that have fallen into disrepair due to their vacancy. I've never heard this particular slant on the problem -- everybody blames the mayor and city council. I also wonder what a more aggressive <a href="http://www.bhistorical.org/" rel="nofollow">historical society</a> would do. Such has been a great success in other southern cities like Charleston, Savannah, and Chattanooga. Birmingham badly needs this.
